Grand Rapids, Michigan has a unique relationship with sculpture.
In 1969, the city commisioned Alexander Calder to develop a work that would be the
centerpiece for celebrating the arts. The Grand Vitesse
was Calder's contribution and it has served as a focal point since it's installation.
In an effort to bring focus to the sculptural legacy of Grand Rapids, it is
time to document and record all of the accessible sculptural works available to Grand Rapidians
for study by artists, students, and scholars across the globe.
